Our skin is constantly
regenerating and repairing, and the health (and beauty) of our skin is entirely
reliant on good nutrition. Any fresh, whole-food will lend itself to a healthy
glow but there are certain foods that provide an extra, beauty-loving boost.
1: Eggs
Eggs are a highly nutritious and concentrated source of all 8 essential amino acids to ensure healthy collagen and elastin. They also provide sulphur which helps keep skin soft and supple, as well as boosting hair and nail growth!
2: Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids
Omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFA) from cold-water species like salmon and tuna are important for lustrous skin. Our body uses them to nourish, protect, hydrate and smooth.
3: Seaweed
Seaweed is an incredibly rich source of vitamins, trace minerals, and chlorophyll which makes it an incredibly nutrient-dense option for skin, hair and nail food. This unique combination helps retain water in the skin cell (think plump, dewy and hydrated) and adds strength and shine to hair and nails.
4: Microgreens
Microgreens are not just great garnish. These tiny vegetable greens are high in vital nutrients including vitamins K, C, E, lutein and beta-carotene which are important for beautiful skin and eye health.
5: Sprouts
Sprouts are high in fibre and vitamins A, B-complex, C, and E, which means they offer skin- specific nutrition and help increase energy as well!
5: Coconut Kefir
Coconut kefir is made by fermenting coconut water with beneficial bacteria that help to detoxify and heal our gut – a shot of which may contain as many as 15 billion CFU of probiotics, which is three times more than most yoghurts! These beneficial bacteria keep skin clear by crowding out bad bacteria, which can cause acne and hormonal imbalances.
6: Tomato Juice
Tomatoes, tomato juice, and especially cooked tomatoes provide lycopene which has demonstrated effects in protecting skin from sunburn. A full glass gives you a sun protection factor (SPF) of 5 and helps prevent premature skin ageing.
7: Beetroot
Beets reverse dull skin by stimulating the lymphatic system and removing waste from our cells – especially important for those prone to break-outs. They also oxygenate bringing brightness and vitality to the skin and may even help reduce the appearance of cellulite by strengthening the dermal skin layer.
8: Lemons
Lemon juice stimulates the liver which helps remove fat-soluble toxins and old hormones (which may trigger breakouts and worsen oily skin) and their vitamin C content keeps your skin glowing and bright.
