Louis Vuitton is a brand
foundedon travel: those iconic trunks, suitcases and smart, stylish
ready-to-wear
for the jetset girl. So new designer Nicolas Ghesquière’s decision to look to
the space age, and its teeming possibilities for space travel, is a fun, fresh
take on an esteemed brand heritage. This wasn't a collection that took its
inspiration from one particular idea but from a desire to travel
into the future. Woven dresses with choir boy collars
and drawstring ties gave this show its foundation along with
printed velvet ruffle-trim gowns and striped leather skirts.
Lightweight short-sleeve dress, detailed with
soft appliqué panelling, gave the impression that these were
clothes which had been designed for the future but also suggested
that this was an offering that had been created with tried and tested
codes from the past in mind.
