Fresh off
her most personal album ever, The Pinkprint, Nicki Minaj is striking a powerful
pose as Roberto Cavalli's newest face. The designer just released a video of
Minaj showcasing the brand's Spring 2015 collection.
"I
chose Nicki Minaj because she embodies the exuberant and modern femininity of
the Cavalli woman," Roberto Cavalli said in a statement accompanying the
video.
The ad
campaign is as bright and colorful as Minaj's music, featuring quick cuts and
vibrant effects. Minaj poses for photographer Francesco Carrozzini as Cavalli's
designs fan out behind her.
Cavalli
said he chose Minaj to make a statement. "In recent years we have become
accustomed to women castigated in clothes that hide their body shapes. With
this campaign, I wanted to send a strong countertrend message," Cavalli
said. "I wanted a sensual woman who is aware of her body, who is not
afraid to show her curves, rather she make them as a strength."
And it
seems like the two were meant to be. The designer points out that the snake is
one of his iconic symbols, and Minaj's recent hit just so happened to be called
"Anaconda." Looks like great minds think alike.
