It was just
this past September when Burberry released its new ‘My Burberry’ fragrance campaign
starring supermodels Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne in their first ever photo
shoot.
Now, just when we thought
Burberry couldn’t top its model dream team, the British label has gone ahead
and released its latest campaign starring those other “two great British
icons:” Naomi Campbell and Jourdan Dunn.
Shot in
London by longtime Burberry collaborator, Mario Testino, Naomi and Jourdan star
in the new spring/summer ‘15 ads, which as it tuns out, mark a number of firsts
for both the brand and its models. For
starters, the campaign not only celebrates Naomi’s first appearance for the
brand since 2001 (she was then joined by her pal Kate), but it also marks her
first time teaming up with Jourdan. This
is also the first time the fashion house has exclusively cast black models in a
campaign — a major feat in the ongoing struggle for increased diversity in
fashion.
“Naomi and
Jourdan — two great British icons, two strong, beautiful women and the two
perfect faces for our new campaign,” said Burberry’s chief creative and CEO
Christopher Bailey.
Much like
Kate and Cara’s campaign, the two British beauties appear to be the best of
friends as they’re depicted cozying up to one another in colorful pieces from
the brand’s spring collection including its famous trenchcoats, which Bailey
has reimagined for the season in bold shades of pink and turquoise and printed
with painterly illustrations of vintage book covers and British flora.
“Burberry
is such an iconic brand and I feel very proud to be a part of their campaign
and their team,” Jourdan told British Vogue. “This campaign is even more
special for me because I was shot with Naomi Campbell for the first time -
someone who I admire and respect within the fashion industry.”
Naomi was equally as pleased to share the spotlight
with the 24-year-old model adding, “I was thrilled to work with Jourdan Dunn
for the first time - it was a lot of fun.
But above all, it’s always rewarding for an artist to work on a campaign
for a world-class product.”
The full
spring/summer ‘15 campaign will be released in the January 2015 issues of
fashion magazines, but you can catch a first look at the model-filled images
and behind-the-scenes video from the shoot below!
