With her
brown hair, doe eyes, and graceful bearing, Emma Ferrer bears more than a
slight resemblance to Audrey Hepburn. Not shocking, considering the 20-year-old
is the eldest granddaughter of the iconic actress.
Ferrer makes her debut on
the September cover of Harper's Bazaar, where in a series of photos taken by
Michael Avedon—the 23-year-old grandson of photographer Richard Avedon, who
captured many classic shots of Audrey—she channels a variety of
Hepburn-inspired looks.
Audrey died
a year before Ferrer was born, so she only knew her grandmother the same way
many of us have: through film and pictures. Still, she acknowledges a strange kind
of connection between them.
“I remember
seeing a photo of her jumping on a trampoline—I believe this was before I
understood that she was famous," Ferrer said. "But I remember
thinking that she looked like a friend I wish I could have had.”
Her career
ambitions are her own, though, leaning more towards drawing and painting than
acting. Having no desire for the Hollywood lifestyle, she traded LA for Italy
in her teen years, and is currently in her third year at the Florence Academy
of Art. She plans on moving stateside to the academy's upcoming New York branch
next year.
Ferrer also
shares her grandmother's affinity for dancing, having trained in ballet. This
would explain why she totally owns the images where she's emulating the Funny
Face dance scene.
Later on,
Ferrer remarks, "Somehow, seeing her in her youth and brilliance reminded
me that I do, in fact, carry her spirit along with me." We couldn't agree
more.
